Color Blind Utility for After Effects

Color Blind Utility assists designers in producing designs that are accessible to those with various forms of color blindness/color vision deficiency. It simulates their experience by transforming colors.

Here’s how it works:

• Apply the After Effects FFX preset to any layer or adjustment layer. You can also apply the preset with no layer selected and it will create a shape layer, which you can then turn into an adjustment layer by toggling the adjustment layer switch.
• Choose the type of color blindness you want to simulate.
• Be aware that the ‘Apply Color LUT’ effect embeds the LUTs in your project file. This can lead to file bloating if there are too many copies. It is advised to only use the preset when you need it, and delete it when you are finished.

Types

• Achromatopsia (Monochromacy) - Affects <0.0001%
• Blue Cone Monochromacy - Affects <0.0001%
• Deuteranomaly (Green weak) - Affects 2.7%
• Deuteranopia (Green blind) - Affects 0.56%
• Protanomaly (Red weak) - Affects 0.66%
• Protanopia (Red blind) - Affects 0.59%
• Tritanomaly (Blue weak) - Affects 0.01%
• Tritanopia (Blue blind) - Affects 0.016%

Included alongside the preset are LUT files (.cube) should you need to use them in other applications like Premiere or Davinci Resolve. These are copies of the original files produced by Geri Borbás.

This tool is released under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license. What this means:

• You can not redistribute this tool (or included assets) for commercial purposes.
• If you do redistribute, you must provide attribution to Geri Borbás and AECartographer.
• You are free to use the tool to assist with commercial works.
